Small Cap Gems on AIM

The mind boggles...

Shares in Zyzyhy Plc (ZYZ) jumped after the company announced an increased investment into Nice Tech Limited.

Nice Tech is a Cambridge based software company that is developing unique
software (called AliceServerAR) that allows for complex, large scale simulated
environments to be built and accessed by thousands of participants via the
Internet.

AliceServer uses 'autonomous agents' to model objects for real.

This combined with a bottom up design philosophy allows the development of worlds of unparalleled realism.

The random complexity that colours reality emerges from the interaction of users and ‘autonomous agents’ governed only by the physical laws of the virtual world.

The mind boggles, but it's definitely one I'll be watching…

A magic pill packet

The next little stock that caught your Sleuth's eye is these guys...

They're the creators of specialist child resistant AND senior friendly packaging solutions for blister packs.

Sounds complicated doesn't it?

But what that really means is a pill packet that can be opened by senior citizens but NOT by kids.

Probably one of the greatest inventions from Avid Holdings (AVD) for panicky parents with a headache!

The company has announced that they are delighted to have run successful trials of the new product which "illustrates the highest levels of resistance of a blister packaged drug to children, while remaining senior-friendly".

And after a bit more digging, I came across this interesting little start-up...

Could the end be nigh for MRSA?

Shares in this potential gem moved forward this week after results promised a bright future following a change of corporate strategy.

Mid States PLC (MST) is now a leading environmental technology group founded on proven expertise in atmospheric chemistry. Its technologies target global concerns and they have an interest in clean air and an improved environment.

And with global warming and environmental issues the subjects on everyone's lips at the moment, it could soon catch the imagination of the City's "tech heads".

But most importantly, their recent acquisition of Inov8 will give this company access to some exciting products soon to be launched. It has established revenues and is well placed to take advantage of significant growth opportunities in its international commercial and retail markets.

Inov8 is a global leader in fuel system testing technology. Its customers include manufacturers such as Ford, Renault and Volkswagen as well as tier one suppliers including Siemens, Delphi, Denso and Keihin.

The Group is well positioned to take advantage of the growing demand in these markets, generated by the increasingly stringent EU and US emission regulations.

As well as new fuel system testing equipment, the Group is planning to launch a ground breaking air disinfection technology. This has been developed over the past several years by the Group's new Chief Scientific Officer. It replicates, indoors, the natural pathogen control which exists in the atmosphere.

In open air, the harmful effects of pathogens are proven to be eliminated by naturally occurring hydroxyl radicals.

The Group's technology, in the form of an air disinfection device, generates a continuous cascade of hydroxyl radicals indoors, reproducing the same effect as occurs naturally outdoors.

The device has been tested and is scientifically proven to be effective in killing pathogens, including MRSA, E. coli and C. diff in an enclosed environment. It's suitable for both commercial and domestic use and target markets include hospitals, care homes, hotels, offices, as well as retail customers.

The enlarged Group provides the necessary infrastructure to support the volume production of the air disinfection products as well as development of the existing Inov8 business.

I'm keeping a close eye on all these innovative little companies.

As you know, jumping in blindly into small caps can be a very risky business. More often than not these young companies can be dependant on solely on one product. If it flies, so does your investment. But if it goes the other way, you could get your fingers badly burnt.

Now I've not got any where enough evidence to make a viable investment case for any of these businesses yet - but they're certainly on my radar.

Happy investing,

Tom Bulford
